Planet Lazarus-IX, while a proverbial gold mine in natural resources, has, after generations of attempts, been deemed too dangerous for proper human colonization. The planet’s environment, while sustainable for human life, is too volatile and even the native flora and fauna have been hazardous to mankind. The lesser human inhabitants of the planet have sought sanctuary in massive cities, living off the scraps of their off-planet corporate masters – from high above, in the safety of their orbital habitats. Within these overpopulated cities and largely left to their own devices, the corporations maintain their influence over the population. Others survive in small communities, often fearful and distrusting of outsiders. With no governmental structure, Lazarus-IX has turned into a refuge for all manner of questionable, disreputable or criminal interests and activities. Diverse contract work by the individual corporations to secure their own interests – bounties, investigation, salvage, recovery, and many more opportunity the less than completely legal categories. Mutants, cyborgs, androids and humans uneasily co-exist as they all compete to survive and earn corporate rewards. Such as Elysium, Pitch Black, Battle Angel & Borderlands.
